一般认为,典型是创作的普遍规律、规范和评估艺术形象的普适性范畴。但,这是源于别林斯基的不甚科学的观点;按其历史地形成的规定性和在实践中的具体运用言,实为现实主义美学范畴。迄今对它所作的阐述,亦未超出恩格斯1888年致哈克奈斯信中提出的论断。诚然,恩格斯的认断,是直接针对现实主义小说的,但其中所包含的基本原则,对现实主义创作却具有普遍一般的意义,即艺术形象与其背景在深刻历史性与再现式具体性基础上
Generally believed that the typical is the universal law of creation, standardize and assess the universal category of artistic image.
