高麦草在河西走廊中段的生长条件下,播种次年可收获种子,通过分析各生长构件:叶、茎、叶鞘重量,第一节至第三节节长、第一叶片至第三叶片的叶片长、小穗数和穗长与单株穗重的关系,发现:在所有的生长构件中,穗重最重要的构成因素是叶鞘重(X_3),其次是茎重(X_2)和叶重(X_1),通过叶鞘重对穗重产生间接正效应;穗长和小穗数是穗重形成的影响因素,表明高麦草的种子产量与营养器官密切相关,同步增长。穗重由构成因素和影响因素共同决定的预测回归模型为:穗重(y)=0.1196-2.563茎重+1.076叶鞘重+0.0204穗长。
