2-mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) as a precipitator of iridium has long been used for gravimetric determination of iridium. It has been reported for the extraction and separation of platinum group metals. Dlamantatos obtained satisfactory results by extracting rhodium with stannous chloride and reactants of MBT with chloroform to separate rhodium. The iridium in the aqueous phase reacts with MBT under heating and boiling, extracts the organic phase, destroys the extract, measures it with stannous bromide, and the operation is lengthy and difficult to grasp.
