A vagrant① scent woke her though it soon melted into the trees. She had been dreaming of reading the paper in a foreign country. Words filtered② through her haltingly③ since she did not really know the language； thoughts， moth-like④， fl uttered but didn’t distinguish themselves.
　　She felt that she had been on this road before. She felt hesitant⑤ to continue. It ended abruptly at a small pond in an unkept garden. The light revived⑥her — primordial⑦ as if witness to the collision of debris that created the moon.
　　She pulled her ears back to listen.
