The effect of one ionic cyanine J-aggregate on another oppositely charged ionic cyanine has been investigated. The absorption spectra show that the latter is initiated to form J-aggregates, both of which are present as separate J-aggregates without the formation of two types of mixed aggregates with alternating stacking of cyanine ions; the calorimetric measurements support This fact. Using the colloidal nature of J-aggregates, the electrophoretic mobility measurements of the particles were performed on a system in which pre-ionic cyanine J-aggregates initiate post-ionic cyanine formation into J-aggregates. The observed electrophoretic behavior shows that the two separated J-aggregates are present as a whole with electrical interactions. For comparison, the effect of added salt counterions on an anionic cyanine and a cationic cyanine J-aggregate was also studied and the electrophoretic behavior of the J-aggregate in the presence of added salt was also observed
