Objective To analyze the differences in perceptions of discrimination among migrant children in public schools and migrant children's schools and provide evidence for promoting the physical and mental health of migrant children. Methods A self-made questionnaire was used to investigate 869 migrant children from the first to the third grade of two public schools and two migrant children's schools in Guangzhou. Results 67% of migrant children reported having experienced campus discrimination and 57% of migrant children reported having been subjected to extra-school discrimination. Migrant children are significantly more discriminated against on campus than on school. The proportion of migrant children in migrant children schools who had experienced campus discrimination or discrimination outside schools was significantly higher than that of migrant children in public schools (all P <0.01). Conclusions Migrant children generally feel discriminated against, while public schools are more conducive to reducing discrimination among migrating children.
