连铸钢坯或钢锭经开坯后在表面上常存在有微裂纹、发纹、脱碳层等缺陷,必须在轧制加热前将这些缺陷去掉,以确保轧制质量及提高成材率。钢坯全修磨后辅以局部点修磨是比较理想的一种精整工艺,生产率较高,能减少以后工序的再次清理量和废品量。1983年3月号美国《钢铁工程师》杂志介绍了美国柯伯瓦德公司下属的瓦伦(Warren)特殊钢厂从1978年以来采用两种修磨方式的试验比较,认为全修磨无论从质量或经济上看均优于局部修磨。全修磨甚至被提出作为一种代替酸冼改善劳动条件的工序。
