Alan Huang, 41, is currently with Bell Labs, a subsidiary of AT & T in New Jersey. He recalled: “I never had any doubts about success when I started to do optical computer dreams.” A year ago, when Huang opened up the first experimental calculator based on optical rather than electronic principles . This calculator, configured with a combination of lasers, lenses and prisms, can be used as the basis for future optical computers 100 to 1,000 times more powerful than today’s most powerful supercomputer. David Casasent, director of the Center for Optical Computing at the University of Minicoma, said the yellow result was “an important first step toward a new technology clock.”
