被誉为“滇西学府”的大理一中自1877年10月15日西云书院创建,至今已有140年的历史。2007年130年校庆,对联“跨三世纪读书养气承前启后代代桃李竞芬芳,历百卅载造福桑梓薪火相传辈辈先贤创业艰”记录了学校的辉煌历程。百年教育所植桃李遍及海内外,为中华民族的解放事业和社会主义建设做出了卓越的贡献。大理一中是云南省办学历史最悠久的中学,在全国也有一席之地,被称为“让人一辈子想在里面读书的地方。”
