目前使用的多区段单线或双线往复式人工接力运材索道,需设人力操作交换站,既占用人力,又增加工序,影响产量,操作也不够安全,生产成本还高。为了改变这种状况,四川省林机所设计了单线索道使用的重力式自动交换跑车,并由川西林业局制造出两台样机。1980年经中间试验并改进后,又在马溪沟伐区进行了生产试验,基本成功。共运材1,065立方米,最大载量3.3立方米,同时返向运输一定生产、生活物资上山,节约了能源,效果较好。
