German domestic sales of members of the German Crop Protection Industry Association (IVA) rose 9.9% to 1.133 billion euros (1.066 billion U.S. dollars) in 2002. But after adjusting for inflation, the sales figures show that the German market has virtually stagnated over the past five years. IVA members account for about 95% of the German pesticide market. The Chairman of the IVA noted that for the first time in Germany the plant protection market in 2002 showed an upward trend, primarily through the increased demand for new products of high value. Despite the generally declining world market, the export of plant protection products in Germany is still growing. This led to IVA members’ total sales (including the domestic market and exports) increased 7% to 3675 million euros. Sales of herbicides and fungicides increased 7.7% to 515 million euros respectively
