Iris Monroe’s short story collection “Escape” is its masterpiece, published in 2004 by the readers of all ages. “Escape” mainly describes the daily life and existence of women in small towns in Canada, which shows a strong ecological feminism, specifically as follows: In a society of patriarchal dualistic thinking mode, women are in a disadvantaged position with nature; Females can not escape the fate of their tragedies due to economic and emotional attachment to men; women’s pursuit of new spiritual beliefs eventually disintegrates under the traditional religious system. Monroe has critically criticized the dualism idea of Western society and advocated the establishment of an ecological civilized society in which men and women are equal, and man and nature live in harmony.
