Since Niger reported one case of Type I poliovirus (WPVⅠ) on January 3, 2013, the country continued its outbreak response. One case of WPVⅠ found in Tawava province was paralyzed on 15 November 2012 (first in the country since December 2011). The gene sequence confirmed that the virus is newly imported into the Niger and closely related to the virus transmitted in Kaduna State of Nigeria. The Niger government continues to follow the international outbreak response guidelines set by the World Health Assembly (WHA) resolution WHA59.1
