浙东文人宋濂在元季创作了数量相当可观的寓言、连珠体等讽喻性较强的散文,此类散文有着鲜明的劝诫、讽喻色彩。其寓言类散文主要以阐发君臣治国之道、宣扬儒家安身立命思想、批判统治者剥削本性及嘲讽儒生道德沦丧为主,整体上呈现出中庸式的温婉之貌;而以《演连珠》五十篇为代表的连珠体散文以阐发为政之道及修身之道为务,就句式而言,此体均为偶数句,且以骈四俪六之句为主,多押韵,结构上采用“盖闻……是以……”模式,“盖闻”“是以”各引领两部分对句,形成一种相互阐发的关系。
