Emily Dickinson, on the whole, is a pessimistic poet. In her lifetime, she created over 1,000 lyrical short poems. Her poems reflect her mental restlessness and her awareness of the predicament of human beings. Topics include death and eternal life, nature and love, ecstasy and despair, but the greatest poem is about death. From wording clever ability to see, she can express the most profound heartbreaking emotion. Her preference for essential and necessary things led her to write aphorisms in plain and concise terms; her creative genius in the subtle handling of simple prosody and imperfect rhyming was great; her bold and accurate metaphor made her even more brilliant.
