The nuclear power plant operated by TEPCO has cumulatively produced 1 trillion kWh of electricity as of May 15. TEPCO is the second power company in the world to achieve this milestone after the United States Federal Edison Company. If fossil fuels are used to produce 1 trillion kWh of electricity, they will need to consume 240 billion liters of crude oil. This is equivalent to about 90% of the total crude oil imported by Japan in the previous fiscal year. TEPCO operates 15 sets of nuclear power at its three sites
