According to the 2000 International Competitiveness Report published by the Swiss Institute of Management in Lausanne, among the 47 countries and regions in the world, China ranks the 31st in the ranking of international competitiveness, down 2 places from the previous year, of which the competition in science and technology Power ranked 28, down 3 over the previous year. The main reason for the decline in the ranking of China’s scientific and technological competitiveness has been the drop in indicators in terms of technology management and intellectual property. In the indicators of intellectual property, the number of domestic residents receiving their own patents was the same as that of the previous year, both of which were 12. The growth rate of domestic residents receiving the national patent data dropped from 25 in the previous year to 33, down 8 places. In the case of a very small absolute number of patents, the growth rate declines, indicating that the international competitiveness of China’s technology industry is at a distinct disadvantage.
