盆景,在人民群众中有着深厚的土壤,在我国传统文化艺术中,可说是一枝独秀。作为一种造型艺术,盆景是园艺、美术和文学相结合的产物,它以独特的素材和洗炼的手法,把大自然的风姿神采、佳山丽水,形象地缩写在一只体积有限的盆中,有人把它比作“立体的画,无声的诗”。广不盈尺、富有诗情画意的山石盆景,令人心驰神往,诱发人们对祖国山水草木的爱恋之情;而那苍劲挺秀、斗寒争荣的树桩盆景,又往往寄托着人们的高尚情操。盆景在我国已有一千三百年以上的历史。一九七二年在陕西乾陵出土的唐代李贤(公元654—684,高宗李治次子)墓的甬道壁画上,绘有两个侍女,一个双手托一椭圆形浅盆,中有山石和花树,一个手持莲瓣形盘,中有绿叶、红果。这是我国出现盆景的较早例
