In order to reduce the impact of non-motorized reverse riding on road traffic flow, enhance the level of road safety and study the safety physiology characteristics of retrograde non-motorized rider. Through the high-precision camera, the retrograde proportion of non-motorized vehicles in three sections of Xi’an city was obtained. The velocity and heart rate of cyclists during retrograde monitoring were monitored by using sports bracelets and mobile phones. Time-domain analysis was used to analyze the relationship between cyclists and retrograde Heart rate variability (HRV), and put forward suggestions on how to improve the control measures and optimize the design of transport facilities to guide the riders’ health and safety. The results show that the number of retrograde electric bicycles is large and the retrograde rate of bicycles is high. When the retrograde cyclists ride on, the speed and HRV of the bicyclist decrease, and the heart rate increases. As a result, the sympathetic tone increases, which is detrimental to cyclist health and traffic safety.
