On November 25, 1996, after Jiang Zemin attended an informal meeting of leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation that attracted world-wide attention in Manila, Philippines, the Ministry of Foreign Trade of China announced an exciting news: The 2nd APEC International Trade Fair Scheduled for June 6 to June 10, 1997 in Yantai, Shandong Province. It is reported that many people are concerned about whether Yantai such a small city can undertake world-class activities. The leaders of relevant state ministries and commissions think that it should not be surprised to choose Yantai to host such a grand expo. Looking back at the pace of opening up to the outside world in Yantai, it is not hard to see that this is the result of a decade-long tireless efforts by the decision makers of Yantai and Yantai to take advantage of the east wind of reform and opening up and is the result of the long-term cooperation between Yantai and the Asia-Pacific region.
