In this paper, ABC immunoenzyme staining technique was used to observe the distribution of GnRH neurons and their fibers in the brain of rats and mice. The results showed that more than 90% of GnRH neurons were concentrated in the anterior medial area of diagonal strips near the endplate vessels and extended to the medial septum to the dorsal head and to the supraoptic nucleus toward the lateral caudal end. The medial basal hypothalamic area showed no positive soma. The GnRH fiber terminates in the median bulge via the ventricular circumference and lateral bundle: present at its full extent and full width at the head and gradually diverges back into two bundles, centered on the lateral bulge of the midline. The differences between rodent and primate GnRH systems and their implications in reproduction are discussed.
