In order to set up an independent technology development system as soon as possible, the South Korean government will enhance its overall competitiveness and participate in international cooperation in science and technology and in the division of labor. In 1992, the G-7 Hi-Tech Development Program was launched that competed with Japan and Western countries in high technology. G-7 means seven economic powers - the United States, Canada, Japan, Germany, France, Italy, Britain. The South Korean government and industry call this plan an “official production” partnership that will cost the program $ 6 billion over the next 10 years. The G-7 program is the largest investment in science and technology in South Korea’s history. In 1992, the South Korean government invested 160 million U.S. dollars in this plan and the industry invested 120 million U.S. dollars.
