In the past, stratification studies on floating population mostly focused on the institutional factors (household registration system) or on the non-institutional factors such as occupation and income. It is rare to study the social stratification of floating population from the perspective of living. The use of Shanghai Changning District sixth census data were analyzed. In the floating population, whether housing quality is good or not and property right is no longer the privilege of the elite, on the contrary, the elites and non-elites are differentiated within their ranks. Commercial service personnel in the non-elite are not only owned by property rights, Housing quality have shown obvious advantages, while the elite professionals in the housing quality is also more prominent, but in the housing area, occupational stratification did not affect the size of the housing area.
