小学数学自能学习是对应于接受性学习的一种符合课程标准要求的现代化的学习方式。把自能学习与课堂教学的基本要素即“教师和学生、教学内容、教学媒介、教学背景”的研究相结合,探究构建小学数学卓越课堂的指导思想、策略和方法,提出自能学习是构建卓越课堂的途径,强调营造教学背景是构建卓越课堂的前提和条件;科学地组织和设计内容是构建卓越课堂的基本要素;树立新的教师观是构建卓越课堂的保障;理解新的学生观是构建卓越课堂的核心理念。
