Art design is a vocational course in secondary school. Due to the declining enrollment of students, the drop-out of students in all grades of secondary education and the general lack of emphasis on the curriculum in schools, the course was unsatisfactory. Many schools are not willing to open this course because most learners are not interested in art design. However, there are no studies focusing on the factors that affect the attitude of teachers and students to art design courses. The purpose of this paper is to analyze and analyze the factors affecting teachers and students’ attitudes toward art design courses. This article was conducted in a public secondary school in Niyanza, Kenya, and consisted of 113 students and 15 teachers. The simple random sample picks out 131 students from among those dropping out of 439 art design courses. The study found that schools lacked materials, equipment and facilities. The cost of running a course is high, the hours allocated to an art design course are not sufficient, and training and practical work can not be carried out. This paper suggests that the Ministry of Education should reconsider the initial goal of launching vocational education in high schools in Kenya, hire more outstanding teachers of art design, equip schools with art-design-related equipment and increase the hours of art design.
