1998年12月10日21时48分,著名核物理学家、我国核科学的奠基人和开拓者之一、本刊编委会名誉主任王淦昌院士在北京溘然长逝。王淦昌,这个与我国核工业的成就紧紧联系在一起的名字,在长达70年的科研生涯中,以提出验证中微子存在的实验方案、发现反西格马负超子、提出用激光打靶实现核聚变、参与我国核武器研制的试验研究与组织领导等一系列令世界瞩目的科学成就,成为我国20世纪科学界最杰出的人物之一。本刊根据人大副委员长吴阶平、原二机部部部长刘杰和中国工程物理研究院副院长杜祥琬院士等撰写的纪念文章,摘编成文,以表达广大读者和本刊全体工作人员对王老的无限怀念与痛悼之情。
