七十年代初期以来,随着水利条件的不断改善,稻茬麦面积的扩大,为硬草(Sclevochloa Kengiona)的发生创造了十分有利的条件,致使硬草迅速蔓延扩散,成为麦田中的主要恶性杂草之一。我市硬草主要分布在黄泛冲积的邳县、雎宁、铜山、沛县及市郊的沙质壤土和盐碱地(PH8.1以上),粘土地发生极少。1983年粗略统计,全市发生面积近40万亩。占小麦播种面积的6.25％,占稻茬麦面积的三分之一左右。在部分油菜田、越冬绿肥田及蔬菜地也有零星发生。
