Different forms of injury to central nervous system trigger a large network of cellular changes including neuron, neurogial cell and endothelial cell in morphology and metabolism and function. These changes play an important role in the protection against infectious pathogens and the repair of the damaged nervous system. Astrocyte changes most rapidly following injury. There was a relationship between astrocyte reaction and the pathologic process and function recover of damaged brain tissue following CNS injury.
