The arid arid region in central Asia, which mainly relies on the runoff from the river outflow to maintain the fragile ecological balance between the mountainous and oasis-desert regions, has a completely different water cycle from that in the humid region. The runoff does not occur in the plain area. The surface water and groundwater are the same as the mountainous area. A river basin is an ecological functional unit that is interdependent on surface water and groundwater.
