A titanium-based powder metallurgy from Dynamet Technologies Ltd. in Burlington, Mass., USA, has been patented to create a gas generator valve that automatically enters and exits the gas. According to the Metalworking News, the valve material consists of a metal matrix compound, including a titanium alloy matrix and TiC particles to reinforce the matrix. The company claims that the key process in the manufacture of titanium parts is cold isostatic pressing until the nearly net shape is formed and the preform sintered to about 95% density.
