Martin Marictta / NASA contracted Actron to contract the design, manufacture, testing, and equipment of a multi-purpose dock window assembly for S-190 laboratories. This article focuses on the issues of thermal optical analysis in the design. The window is embedded in a BK-7 glass (59.18 cm long, 44.91 cm wide, 4.06 cm thick). Although the conditions must satisfy many mechanical specifications, the most stringent optical requirements of the S-190 multi-band camera system are high definition and distortion-free. Under operating conditions, the maximum root mean square error from any best-fit surface for any circular area of 7.6 cm diameter must be less than 12.0 nm and the maximum root mean square error from the reference surface through the entire window must be less than 60 nm.
