爱国主义教育基地是弘扬和培育民族精神的生动课堂,但是在基地建设中,一个不争的事实是:除了少数基地游人如织、应接不暇,产生了较好的社会效益和经济效益,成为当地的名胜、带动经济发展的龙头外,也有相当多的教育基地,除了单位组织在特定节日参观之外,人气低落,门可罗雀,游人自发前来的极少,出现了新展览无人问津,保安员、讲解员多于游人的尴尬情况,造成资源的极大浪费,爱国主义教育更是流于空谈,甚至自身的生存都成了问题。究其原因,资源的多少是一个问题,而经营管理的观念和水平更是一个不容忽视的问题。爱国主义教育是一项长期的重要任务,如何提高爱国主义教育基地的建设、管理、使用水平,增强基地的吸引力、感染力、影响力,抓住机遇,谋求发展,是需要我们探索的课题。
