蒙古族原始音乐泛指产生于蒙古原始氏族部落时代并有别于13世纪以后蒙古族草原游牧音乐风格的蒙古族始源音乐艺术;它带有鲜明的山林狩猎文化特征,有其自身独特的音乐风格和音乐形态特征。蒙古族原始音乐主要有三大体裁,即萨满教歌舞、原始狩猎歌曲及古代英雄史诗。本文深入研究梳理了蒙古族原始音乐产生的历史背景、社会背景、宗教渊源,以及音乐风格特征、音乐形态特征和音乐文化特征。
