A rapid and simple catalytic kinetic spectrophotometric method for the determination of mercury was established based on the reaction of azure Ⅰ with potassium iodide in citric acid-disodium hydrogen phosphate buffer at pH = 4.0. The linear range of the method is 0.25 to 4.50 mg / L; the injection frequency is 48 h. The relative standard deviation of 11 replicates was less than 1.9%. The method is applied to the determination of mercury in tap water and tap water with satisfactory results.
