Nearly 3,000 astronomers from around the globe celebrated their "Olympics" for a fortnight from August 20 to 31, 2012 in China. During the 28^th General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union (IAU), which was held at the China National Conference Center in the Olympic Green of Beijing, the astronomers enjoyed eight symposia, seven joint discussions and 18 special sessions on frontline astronomy topics.
