The Ge atom is coordinated by three chloro atoms and one carbon atom from carboxyethyl, forming an irregular tetrahedral geometry with average Ge-Cl distance of 2. 130(2) and the Ge-C distance of 1.946(5)A. Each two molecules are bound together by hydrogen bonds between the carboxyl groups to form a dimer.
