4月22日,中国海军司令员吴胜利上将与美国海军陆战队司令康威上将通过两国国防部直通电话进行了通话。而此前不久,康威还率部来华访问,这也是自1987年以来,美国海军陆战队司令首次访华。在电话中,康威感谢中方对其不久前访华所做的精心安排和友好接待,同时希望进一步加强美中两国海军陆战队之间的交往,增进两军的相互了解与信任。作为美国海军陆战队的改革派,康威也被视为美军高层中的“对华接触派”。 On April 22, General Wu Shengli, Commander of the Chinese Navy, and General Conway, commander of the United States Marine Corps, conducted a telephone conversation through the direct telephone numbers of the two countries’ defense ministries.
