机带井实质是一种小口径土井。从水力特性上讲,它是井底和井壁都能进水的潜水非完整井。因井深度与离心泵的理论吸程相接近,水泵进水管也可作井管,加上井口径小,又便于把进水管与大气隔绝,起到与塑管真空井同样增大水泵吸程的作用,所以农民非常喜欢这种井型。它是沙颍河流域特定的供水段与水泵驱动力接近的一种巧合,当前是手压饮水井普遍分布的沙颍河中下游的特殊产物。今年入夏以来,沙颍河流域降雨量普遍稀少。据气象部门统计,7月份降雨量为27.8毫米,仅是常年的14.8%,干旱直接威胁着今年的农业生产。目前农业实行科学套种,提高了复种指数,增大了用水量。按原来农田水利建设的井灌工程无法满足群众抗旱用水的要求。经过多年抗旱,农民大部分已购置动力机、喷灌泵和输水带等灌溉用具,在沙颍河流域出现了自费争打机带井的热潮,在果园、瓜菜地基本实现了一块地一眼井。
