In “Building Materials Science”, it is generally stated that there is alkali-aggregate swelling reaction due to improper selection of concrete, but there are few examples. Recently, massive bursting and collapse occurred on the concrete foundation of a large-scale main transformer (over 150 tons in weight) in a substation in Shanghai. The foundation has been built for the past two years. Fortunately, no equipment has been installed. Otherwise, it will cause major accidents. Although there is no reference to the original concrete material for reference, the basicity value of the concrete is known to be high from the sampling test. The analysis is mainly due to the alkali-aggregate reaction.
