Objective To compare the hemolytic effect of menthone, borneol and camphor on the erythrocyte hemolysis and the change of hemolytic effect after combined with benzalkonium chloride. Methods The Hemolysis Rate (HR) and Half Hemolysis Concentration (HC50) were used as indexes to compare the hemolytic effects of menthol, borneol and camphor. After the same concentration of the cooling agent and benzalkonium chloride Hemolysis of erythrocytes, and analysis of the type of post-combination interaction using the method of equal radiation. Results The HC50 of menthol, borneol and camphor were 2.59 7, 3.59 3 and 11.36 mmol·L-1, respectively. When combined with benzalkonium chloride, the hemolysis curve shifted to the left and the HC50 all fell to the 95 % Confidence interval. Conclusion Menthol has the highest hemolytic effect on erythrocytes, followed by borneol and camphor. The cooling agent can enhance the hemolysis of benzalkonium chloride.
