Objective: To investigate the clinical significance of microvascular volume (MVC) and nm23 gene expression in human glioma tissue. Methods: The expressions of MVC and nm23 in 54 human glioma tissues were retrospectively studied by immunohistochemistry. Results: The MVC increased with the malignant degree of glioma and the severity of peritumoral edema. MVC in recurrence group was significantly higher than that in non-recurrence group (P <0.01). At the same time, it was found that the positive expression of nm23 was negatively correlated with the malignancy of human glioma and the edema of the tumor (r = -0.48 and -0.51, respectively, P <0.01). The positive expression rate of nm23 in recurrence group was significantly (P <0.05), and there was a negative correlation between the expression of MVC and the positive expression of nm23 in tumor tissue (r = -0.53, P <0.01). Conclusion: MVC and nm23 gene expression are two useful indicators that can reflect the biological behavior of human glioma.
