From about 1940 to 1960, people think it seems as long as they think carefully when applying linguistics and psychology, they can provide the best foundation for solving the problem of language teaching. However, the drastic changes in the fields of linguistics and psychology in the 1960s led to the realization that the interrelationship between the theoretical teaching of language teaching as a practical activity and the development of linguistic science was not as simple and direct as previously thought. Some scholars conclude that in order to apply linguistics more effectively in language teaching, applied linguistics may serve as an interdisciplinary discipline between the two. At the same time, they also cautioned that although applied linguistics can play an important role in specific aspects, its role is still limited.
