1956年度北京市的数学競賽,已經結束了。在这次競賽中,最好的成績几乎达到了我們預計的最高标准。一般講來,絕大部分都达到了优秀中学生的水平,在这第一次的数学競賽中,就出現这样优異的成績,实在是使人十分兴奋的。这顯示了新中國青年們的卓越才能和学習毅力,也說明了我國的科学事業中,已經湧現了强有力的后备隊伍,我們深信,这些年青的数学爱好者們,將給我國社会主义建設增加新的光采。数学是研究量的关系和空間形式的科学,在一切的科学中都不可能缺乏少量的关系,数学因此也就很自然地滲透到科学的各个领域之中,所以,掌握好数学。就給我們順利地進入科学的其他領域,打下一个牢固的基礎,它將很好地为各項科学服务,从这一意义來看,这次数学競賽的勝利完成,不僅数学界为之欢欣,就是祖國整个科学界也当作一件喜事看待。我为青年朋友們的出色成就而慶幸,更为祖國建設事業的坚强而精銳的后备隊伍而慶
The math contest in 1956 in Beijing was over. In this competition, the best results almost reached the highest level we expected.
