创建于1956年的上海市纺织科学研究院是一所纺织工业综合性科研单位,其研究领域涉及天然纤维和化学纤维的纺、织、染整、针织、非织造布、纺织材料、纺织测试仪器、电气自动化、特种纺织品、环境保护以及纺织科技情报等多种专业.该院除建有十个研究室、五个实验工场外,纺织工业部还在该院设立了“纺织工业非织布(干法)科技开发基地”、“纺织工业特种纺织品科技实验基地”、“纺织工业南方科技测试中心”、“全国印染工业科技情报站”和地方设立的“中国上海测试中心纺织测试站”、“上海经济区纺织技术经济情报中心”等多个分支部门.
