画家张学智长期研究宁夏贺兰山古代岩画遗产,观摩、学习其图像,领会其精神,从中吸取营养,进行了富有成果的再创造。从1989年第一次见到贺兰山岩画到今天,张学智投身这项事业近三十年,从拓制转向创作,作品冠以“中国印象岩画”名称,不仅在国内外广泛宣传具有重要历史和艺术价值的贺兰山岩画,而且以自己的绘画实践向世人表明,古老岩画也能为当代绘画创作提供丰富资源,从而对我们广泛吸收古代艺术遗产,走以古开今的道路,具有无可争议的借鉴意义。
