在鸦片战争至20世纪40年代末的百多年波澜壮阔的中国现代化进程中,来华美国传教士的西学翻译在中西文化交流中发挥了举足轻重的作用,而由于戴着传教面纱的外来教士的宗教色彩之故,这段史事在中国翻译史中未加以充分的研究,变得黯然失色。而今全景式追述他们近现代在华的西学翻译,探讨其意图与策略,揭示其丰富的文化内涵,展现其在华多层面的接受、影响与意义,显得十分必要。
During the one hundred years of the Opium War to the magnificent process of China’s modernization in the late 1940s, the Western translation of missionary missionaries to China in China played a pivotal role in the exchange of Chinese and Western cultures.
