莫言的《檀香刑》对刑罚血腥、直观而又细腻的描述使得这部作品从问世以来就颇具争议。而奈保尔的小说《毕司沃斯先生的房子》中的主人公原型是奈保尔的父亲,通过对父亲一生的叙述,反映了第三世界人民的生活背景。二者同为诺贝尔文学奖得主,两部小说又均有着重要的意象,本文意在用意象主义对比分析《檀香刑》和《毕司沃斯先生的房子》。通过将两部作品进行比较分析,发现两位作家在运用意象来表现有着混杂身份的主人公在对自我价值的实现与
Mo Yan’s “Sandalwood Punishment” is a bloody, punctual, and exquisite description of the penalty that has made this work controversial since its inception. The protagonist of Naipaul’s novel The House of Mr. Bissworth is the father of Naipaul, which reflects the life background of people in the third world through the narration of his father’s life. Both are the same winners of the Nobel Prize in Literature. Both of the two novels also have important images. This article aims to contrast and analyze the “Sandalwood Penalty” and “Mr. Biwasworth’s House” with imagery. Through the comparative analysis of the two works, we find that the two writers are using images to show that the protagonists with mixed identities
