目前,全世界年产彩色显像管及彩色显示管约2.42亿只,其中彩色显像管1.4亿只,彩色显示管1.02亿只。按地区统计分别为:西欧3340万只、北美3160万只、巴西830万只、日本2240万只、韩国3560万只、台湾1750万只、中国大陆3400万只,印度550万只、马来西亚2080万只、新加坡1020万只、泰国740万只、印尼500万只、东欧850万只、越南240万只。可以看出亚洲是世界彩管最大供应地,占全球产量的66％。彩管产量增长最多的是中国大陆,从1997年的2167万只猛升到1998年的3400万只,增长幅度达50％以上。 国内彩管生产企业由1986年以前的彩虹一家发展到今天包括北京松下、赛格日立、上海永新、南京华飞、广东福地等在内的九大生产厂,年产量也由1984年的96万只发展到1998年的3400万只,生产能力超过4000万只,年产量增加近40倍。随着整个彩管产量急剧增加,供求矛盾日益突出,市场竞争日趋激烈。目前彩管生产企业在国内外市场均受到价格打压,处境十分困难,而彩虹彩管1998年出口量创出历史最高水平,他们的做法或许对其他企业有所启迪。
