从某种意义上来说 ,我认为每个惊险小说的作家都要涉及到“活埋”这个主题 ,只是因为这样产生的恐惧感才更有说服力。当我七岁左右的时候 ,播放的最令人恐怖的电视节目是阿尔弗雷德·希区柯克的作品。在这当中最恐怖的———我和我的朋友们一致认为———是剧中一个叫约瑟夫·考特的人物 ,他在一起车祸中受了伤。他的伤实在太重了 ,医生们都认为他死了 ,因为他的心跳已经停止。他们马上就要对他尸检———换句话说 ,就是当他还活着 ,并在内心深处大声尖叫的时候把他切开。突然 ,他流下了一滴眼泪 ,让医生们知道他还没死。这真是个令人感动的故事。但“感动”这个词在我“人生”的剧目中却不经常出现。当我的思绪转到这个话题的时候 ,我突然想到一个更加现代———我们可以称之为现代化吗 ?———而全新的、充满活力的交流方式。于是就写了这篇故事。最后要说的是关于这条蛇 :我非常怀疑是否有叫“秘鲁非洲树蛇”的爬行动物 ,但在戴蒙·阿加莎·克里斯蒂的荒诞剧集《马普小姐》中 ,确实提到过一种非洲树蛇。我非常喜欢这个词 (是“树蛇”而不是“非洲”) ,所以我把它放在了这个故事里。
In a sense, I think the writer of every adventure novel touches on the topic of “living bury,” simply because the resulting sense of fear is more convincing. When I was seven or so years old, the most horrifying television program to be played was Alfred Hitchcock’s work. Among the most frightening of these - I and my friends agreed - was a character in the play, Joseph Court, who was wounded in a car accident. His injuries were so heavy that the doctors thought he was dead because his heart had stopped. They are going to have an autopsy on them right away - in other words, when he is alive and cut off in a deep scream of heart. Suddenly, he shed a tear, let the doctors know that he is not dead. This is really touching story. But the word “touched” does not appear often in my “life” repertoire. As my thoughts turn to this topic, I suddenly think of a more modern - we can call it modernization? --- And new, dynamic communication. So I wrote this story. The last thing to say is about this snake: I doubt very much if there are reptiles called “Peruvian African tree snake,” but in the absurd series by Damon Agatha Christie, “Miss Maples,” did mention An African tree snake. I really like the word (“Tree Snake” instead of “Africa”), so I put it in this story.
