The University of Bristol in the southwestern United Kingdom is building a seismic simulator that will ultimately provide engineers with the design information they need to build buildings that can withstand seismic phenomena. The seismic simulator includes a 3x3 meter platform driven by a computer-controlled hydraulic impactor. The device vibrates the model weighing up to 15 tons with previously recorded earthquakes. Data from transducer models of these models will be analyzed using the latest digital signal processing techniques. It will then be possible to make theoretical analysis of the results that are entered directly into the computer.
